Chapter 06: At the Hospital

Day Seven: Open Surgery

You are well on the way to recovery, and getting ever near to the magic discharge day. The surgical team authorise the removal of the last tube, the drain.

Each day you've been getting more and more confidence with the stoma. The Stoma Nurse probably only comes to see you daily as a matter of routine, not because it is essential. As far as she is concerned you can go home when the surgeons are happy.

You start to realise that the food isn't quite as nice as you first thought and over the next few days you'll be planning what the first thing you'll eat when you get home will be.
