MicroSkin for Pediatrics Cymed's MicroSkin adhesive barrier is ideally suited for use with pediatric ostomies. This barrier is made of an ultra-thin, transparent, breathable polyurethane film. Comfortable and conforming, it allows the skin to be viewed through the barrier. The durable MicroSkin will stay in place under friction and it allows for worry-free bathing or swimming. Cymed's mini-pouches are available for all types of ostomies.
The Urostomy Cymed has two mini pouches designed for the pediatric urostomy. The 86400 mini-urostomy pouch has the plain MicroSkin adhesive barrier. The 86400W mini-urostomy pouch has the MicroSkin adhesive barrier with a MicroDerm washer integrated onto the center of the barrier to provide additional peristomal protection. Both pouches are one-piece, transparent and odor-proof with anti-reflux design. Each box comes with a night drainage adapter.
The Colostomy The one-piece drainable mini pouches come with three barrier options. The quality of the stool - liquid or formed, is the first consideration in choosing a barrier. If the stool is formed, the most common pouch choice is the one-piece drainable mini-pouch with MicroDerm washer, 81520W (clear) or 81530W (opaque). The MicroSkin adhesive barrier on this pouch comes with an integral MicroDerm washer that fits around the stoma.
When the stool is liquid, an extra thickness washer may be preferred to ensure adequate protection. Cymed's Platinum series comes with an integral MicroDerm Plus washer that provides this protection. The one-piece drainable mini-pouch with integral MicroDerm Plus washer, 78520 (clear) or 78530 (opaque), is the best choice for liquid stool.
Cymed also has a drainable mini pouch with a plain MicroSkin barrier. This barrier provides with ultimate in flexibility and is able to conform to the minutest irregularities. This pouch is the one-piece drainable mini, 81520 (clear) or 81530 (opaque).
The Ileostomy Since the output from the ileostomy is usually liquid, the Platinum series one-piece drainable pouch with integral MicroDerm Plus washer, 78520 (clear) or 78530 (opaque), is the pouch most commonly used.
Two-Piece Systems for Pediatrics Cymed's two-piece systems come with the three barrier options described above. The smaller pouches for these systems, suitable for pediatrics, are closed-ended with charcoal filters. These pouches come in 8" and mini sizes and are designed to be used once and disposed of. MicroSkin adhesive barrier has a thin, very flexible vinyl flange. The two-piece pouches have an adhesive backing that adheres to the vinyl flange, providing an extremely flat, flexible system.
The two piece system MicroSkin adhesive barriers are 58000 (with MicroDerm washer), 58100 (plain MicroSkin), 78000 (Platinum with MicroDerm Plus washer). The closed-end mini-pouch is 35645. The 8" closed-end pouch is 55645.
