Java Chat Problems/Support

6. Once I'm connected my chosen name gets automatically changed to a "guest" nickname eg Guest6435.

This happens because someone is already on the server with your choice of nickname. If you do get changed to a guest nick it's vital you change to another name, and to do this you use the /nick newname command.

For example look at the screen shot below (note that the text is a lot clearer in reality than this heavily compressed screenshot shows). I logged on as John (even though my name is Jason :o) ), and as you can see it's changed me from John to "Guest3472". To change that I've entered /nick john^ because the nickname John^ is more than likely original enough to not be in use, but I could have used John_ or added a birth year or age after it to make it orginal eg John27 or John1974. Alternatively I could have put anything as my name knowing that if it wasnt original it would tell me by changing back to a guest nick in a minute or so after that. eg /nick Bubbles or /nick Jack_the_kipper or anything.
